Dr. Franz B. Humer, born in 1946 in Salzburg has Austrian and Swiss nationalities. He obtained a PhD in Law from Innsbruck University and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau.

He started as a management consultant in Zurich before joining Schering Plough in 1973 and then Glaxo Holdings in 1981, where he was appointed Managing Director of Glaxo Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd in 1987. He was elected to the Board in 1989 and became Chief Operating Director worldwide operations (excluding USA) in 1992. Franz Humer joined Roche in 1995 as Head of the Pharmaceuticals Division and Member of the Board, became CEO in 1998 and in April 2001 Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO. From March 2008 until March 2014 he has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roche Holding Ltd. Franz Humer joined the Board of Diageo, the world’s leading spirits company in 2005 and has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Diageo plc from 2008 to December 2016.

He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children and the Humer Foundation.

He is an Independent Director with Citigroup Inc., Bial Pharmaceuticals (Portugal), Kite Pharma (Biotech company in Los Angeles), and a member of the International Advisory Board of Allianz SE.
