The winner of the Start-Up Battle, a pitching competition taking place at Labiotech’s conference Refresh in Berlin on 24 May 2016, was announced as Desktop Genetics. This special session was sponsored by High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF).
This fast-paced, interactive and lively session saw five innovative start-up companies pitch in front of a panel of experienced investors and potential partners including
- Frank Hensel – HTGF
- Isabelle de Cremoux – Seventure
- Andreas Eckert – ELSA
- Davidson Ateh – BioMoti.
The judges and the public selected Desktop Genetics to win the coveted Start-Up Battle competition. Edward Perello, founder and CBO of Desktop Genetics presented the company in only 5 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of questions from the judges and audience.
Frank Hensel, Investment Manager at HTGF, said: “Desktop Genetics was selected based on its innovative technology, business model and live pitch. All the judges were very impressed by the live pitch given by CBO and founder of Desktop Genetics, Edward Perello. It was a difficult choice with the high calibre of contestants, all of them bringing passion and energy to communicating their vision for their business. Hopefully the relationships they have made during Refresh will help them to successfully advance their products and innovations.”
The four companies that presented their innovation included Desktop Genetics (London, UK), Eva Diagnostics (London, UK), BioNukleo (Berlin, Germany) and VenomAb (Copenhagen, Denmark).
